The Corner

The State Library has created The Corner as a special space for children within its building at South Bank as well as online. The space is for children 8 years and under, their parents, educators and friends, to enjoy and experience first hand some of the amazing collections, services and programs available at the Library. The Corner features exhibitions from the Dr. Barbara Piscitelli AM Children's Art Archive, unique artworks, wonderful books, fun and educational toys and artist led activities.

With your support, children can explore this site and engage in a creative hands-on and minds-on experience of a digital exhibition, on-line games and reading activities.

Finely Bound (exhibition)

The exhibition displays selected items from the State Library's Heritage Collections including the Australian Library of Art and from the private collections of individual members from the Queensland Bookbinders' Guild.

Finely Bound showcases techniques used to create traditional, contemporary and artistic hand bookbindings by both amateur and professional bookbinders.

State Library has several highly skilled Collection Preservation staff who have retained and still apply hand bookbinding techniques. This is of particular value in understanding book construction in order to carry out book conservation treatments to rare and significant heritage collections.

Of love and war exhibition

Of love and war explores the relationships forged during times of conflict, and the emotions felt by couples as a result of separation, loss and reunion.

It details the excitement of blossoming romance, passionate affairs and whirlwind weddings that have taken place since the First World War, and continue today.

It tells of sweethearts and lovers separated by war, the loneliness and trauma that could tear some apart, and the anguish of those who had lost a partner. Finally, there are the stories of the survivors and their new beginnings when peace returned: the joy of reunion, the challenges of relationships built on wartime experiences, and the new discoveries by war brides resettling in foreign lands.

Join in the local discussion on the State Library of Queensland's Of love and war blog.
